View the Pabsts’ Gilded Age aesthetic world through the nuanced lens of the museum’s art collection. Remembered for the brewery which bears his name, few realize that Captain Pabst and his wife Maria were among the most prominent 19th century art collectors in the Midwest. Today the Pabst Mansion’s art collection is comprised of pieces that originally hung in the Pabst home, those purchased by the Pabsts for business properties, and works from collections of other prominent Milwaukee families. This specialty tour explores how cultural showcasing, social status and personal taste influenced this impressive collection.
